Modern technology has resulted in a variety of unique products and experiences. One of these is virtual tattoos. They are made possible by Augmented Reality (AR). This is where digital material is overlaid on images of real objects. There is an application known as InkHunter that does this to deliver virtual Word tattoos. It is freely available for both Android and iOS smartphone platforms. InkHunter allows you to try on tattoo designs before you get the real thing. It delivers high quality imagery where the tattoo designs are clear and highly realistic too. Here is more about virtual tattoos and the InkHunter application.
Origin of the application
InkHunter began as the result of a 48 hour hackathon held in July 2014. A group of Ukrainian developers attended the competition and developed the first version of InkHunter. After the event was over, 2 members of the team decided to follow up with the idea and eventually built the current form of the application.
Capabilities
The InkHunter application contains a collection of tattoo designs that you can try on using Augmented Reality (AR) technology in your smartphone. All you have to do is pick a design from their database. After that, you can point your phone’s camera to a spot on your body where you would like this tattoo to be placed. After that, the application will overlay the digital design on your skin as though you have already had it done.
Interestingly, you can take a photo of the virtual tattoo. This can help you to get a second opinion on the choice of design and its placement. The virtual tattoo follows the movement and curvature of the spot on your body that you have chosen. In doing so, it delivers a very realistic image.
Conclusion
The developers are currently working on improvements for the application. For example, they are working on colored tattoo overlays because InkHunter currently only supports black and white tattoo designs. They are also working on a feature where you can upload custom Word tattoos and try them on. In addition to that, they are developing a function which allows you to edit the tattoo designs you get in the application. InkHunter uses Augmented Reality (AR) in a practical, exciting and useful way.
